Resigned

'Tis True.  This morning I informed Bayou View Baptist of my intentions to leave later this year.  I've been accepted to participate with The World Race in 2007.  Check them out...it's awesome.  I'll be in at least 11 countries (probably more) beginning in January.  I'll be gone until the end of November.  I've served BVBC almost 12 years (and it will be more than 12 by the time I leave).  I've had the privilege to be a part of so many lives.  I feel good that I'm not leaving BVBC or the students here in Gulfport just to go to another church somewhere.  It's a really big world out there and most of it has never heard about Jesus.

Live- from StudentLife Camp

We're at Shocco Springs for Student Life Camp 06 with Worship Leaders Downhere and speaker Adam Robinson.  On Tuesday (tonight) and Wednesday night around 7:30ish the worship services are being broadcast live at www.studentlifelive.com.

You can read a summary of each days' activities and maybe even see a picture of us at www.influencestudentlife.net.  One of our "jake's" was on stage this morning during celebration.

Tonight on Letterman- Harry Connick, Jr. said this about his 3 daughters:  "When my girls are old enough to start dating, I'm gonna tell the guys they can do anything they want with my girls- absolutely anything.  But here's the catch...whatever they do to my daughters, I'm gonna do to them!"

Yeah...that's snow...not sand!!
Ok... so I'm in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park hiking and camping with the intention of spending some quality time with God.  Most of my prayers end up sounding something like, "Oh God...will this trail ever end?"

So...no huge spiritual breakthroughs while I'm up there.  Well...actually, maybe there was.  I think I have a new definition of a Disciple.  It's really pretty simple.  A Disciple (one who follows Jesus) is a Discipler.  In other words, maybe you're (and me too) not really a disciple unless you're discipling someone else.  We know that right?  Growing the Kingdom is about Multiplication.  Want to double the size of your church or student ministry?  Everyone lead someone else to Christ.

But here's some other cool God stuff.  When I got home tonight someone had stuck a newspaper clipping to my door informing me that John Grisham's Rebuild the Coast Foundation had given the MS Coast Community Foundation $800,000.00 for Katrina Relief.  I guess the clipping was to let me know that the MCCF might be a good place to send a proposal in my efforts to get our $80,000.00 for Makeover Mississippi (see www.makeovermississippi.org).

Anyway...I'm going through a weeks worth of mail when I notice a letter from one of the several "foundations" I had sent my Grant Proposal to.  And guess what?  Enclosed was a check for $80,000.00.  Yep...I went to the mountains searching for God and He was waiting for me in my mailbox!  Makeover Mississippi is fully funded and ready to get going!
